GeoJSON geometries can sometimes be useful independently of GeoJSON.

Alternatives

Format	Notes
WKB	Binary, more compact
WKT	Text based, slightly more compact, a bit harder to parse (not JSON)
GML Geometry	XML based, even more verbose, more complex to parse
